Natural Time:
Why Now?
(Note: Links open in

We live in unprecedented
times, when the yearning to manifest one’s highest destiny motivates
many people. This magnetic attraction to self-actualize was not
the modus operandi for earlier generations. Why now? For one
approach to this question we can look to a great cycle of natural
time.
The Big Picture
The
Great Year consists of 25920 earth year cycles around
the Sun along the orbital path of the zodiac. Twelve ages
make up a Great Year with each age consisting of 2160 years.
The Age of Leo occurred from 10720 B.C. to 9000 B.C. We are now,
or soon will be, in the Age of Aquarius, the zodiac sign opposite
Leo.
Two outstanding events
-- one of construction, the other of destruction -- characterize
the Age of Leo. The Sphinx, that great monument to the integration
of human and divine wisdom was built during the Age of Leo, as were
the pyramids of Giza. The technology involved in building these
pyramids suggests an advanced civilization, with knowledge beyond
the sophistication of our current technology.
The other notable event
during the Age of Leo was the colossal floods that wiped out civilizations.
Whether you regard these floods from the Biblical Noah’s Ark perspective
of punishment, or the Hindu perspective of metamorphic transformation,
the floods represent a tidal wave of purification not unlike the
call to purification that is felt by many people today.
Leo-Aquarius Axis
The
Age of Leo is considered the starting point of the Great Year.
In the Age of Aquarius, therefore we reach the halfway mark of this
current Great Year. In almost all systems of reckoning the halfway
point is a time of evaluation.
From the perspective
of this immense cycle of time we are, at midcycle, naturally pulled
into introspection, into making the most of our opportunities, into
aligning with our highest potential. What potential might
this be? Perhaps it is the same potential that our ancestors
who built the Sphinx 11,000 years ago felt: The potential
to realize the integration of humanness and spirituality.
This lofty goal resonates for many people living on earth right
now and is a goal that is particularly germane to the Leo-Aquarius
axis.
An essence of the Leo-Aquarius
axis is Self in service to Self and Other. (This is not to
be confused with the Aries-Libra axis which can also be stated as
self-other from the perspective of the personal realm, such as self
and life partner. The Leo-Aquarius axis represents the
transpersonal realm.) In this Aquarian Age we have the potential
to manifest authentic Self for the benefit of the Common Good.
It is in this age when we learn how to bring our own unique and
specific medicine into the world. The time we are in now is
about being who we are and allowing others to be who they are without
diminishing either Self or Other.
Beings of Light
Another reason for the
call to transform right now is an abundant access to light.
Some people believe that we are moving into the Photon Belt, an
area of emanating photons, that lights up the memory of ourselves
as light beings. While scientific controversy surrounds the
Photon Belt theory, there is no question that something major is
happening on energetic levels. Another theory relates the
energetic opportunities of this transformative period to gamma ray
bursts and our
Sun’s natural cycle.
The current phase of
our Great Year and gamma ray bursts that affect our Sun’s cycle
are two possible reasons why we are receptive to a more natural
perspective of time now. Through the environmental movement
of the last thirty years or more, and the current popularity of
feng shui, we have become aware of the sacredness of space.
Time is the other axis in the puzzle of our lives. Exploring
time as it relates to our human energy field is the new arc on the
spiral of our transformative evolution.
Cycles of Nature
Mechanical time, the
construct that most people live with now, regards the human body
as a machine that must function at all costs. With mechanical
time, power is sourced outside of one’s self – the clock tells us
what to do when. With natural time, power is sourced internally,
from the innate wisdom of the body – we move, work, and rest in
synchronous waves that resonate with internal and external cycles
of nature. Both the life force and creativity suffer when
confined by the artificial constraints of mechanical time.
Working with natural
time does not mean that you have to quit your job. Sometimes, in
our modern world, we have to push ourselves. Not always, though.
The starting point for working with natural time is to pay attention
to your own energy rhythms.
Without question, we
are nature beings. When we realign our time consciousness
with the cycles of nature we deepen trust in intuition. Trusting
intuition we awaken to the multidimensionality
of life. From a multidimensional awareness of life we experience
what to do next in our process of becoming self-actualized.
How To Start
Recognizing patterns
of energy is key. Sometimes, it feels like gravity pulls us
to stop and rest. Pay attention! Rather than fight or judge
this pull to rest, actually try to stop for a while. Maybe
it will only be for a few deep breaths, maybe it will be for a catnap,
maybe it will be for an afternoon, or for a day or more. Whatever
time and space you can allow, pay attention, honour the wisdom of
your body and take whatever rest time you can.
Some of the cyclic patterns
of our energy field relate to a personal axis of natural time and
other patterns relate to a collective axis. These patterns
can take many months, if not years, to track. Mark these
rhythms in your calendar. Over time you will begin to notice
discernible patterns that are predictable. You can then start planning
and scheduling your life responsibilities in accordance with your
own natural energy flow. You can start living with a sense
of time that comes from inside, rather than the mechanical clock
outside.
